Sylvia Kay Davis is currently serving as the Chairperson of the Leadership Team Administrative Council of the Barnes United Methodist Church.
She was born and raised in Muncie, Indiana to Bill and Lucille. Sylvia attended Garfield Elementary School, Blaine Junior High School, Muncie Central High School, Ball State University, and Vincennes University.
Sylvia’s first job was as a secretary (part time) for the Madison Street YMCA. She later became employed as a secretary for the Muncie Community School System for 3 years. Sylvia heard the call to become a Civil Service employee and was hired as a correspondence clerk at the United States Army Finance Center in August 1966. She commuted 130 miles, 5 days a week to Indianapolis from Muncie for 4 years before she moved and made Indianapolis her home.
Sylvia attended several churches in Indianapolis before settling on Barnes under Rev N.H. Holloway. She joined Barnes under Rev. Charles Harrison and has served as the chairperson of Pastor Parrish, and Christian Education. Sylvia is considered a retiree. She retired from the Department of the Army as a Supervisory, Military Personnel Specialist in June 2012 at Fort Knox, Kentucky. Her training and 46 year work experience with the Department of the Army has been a plus for Sylvia and has taught her the skills to be a self-starter whose work is marked by integrity and initiative.
